Target Audience?

VH1's Friday TV listings.

Does anyone else see the irony of having a show called Can't Get a Date on at 11:30 on a friday night?

This Week

OK, just about up to date now... LTM was long, tough but good. Had some great conversations and I'm looking forward to the work that needs to get done before SSC this August (which is starting to come along - hopefully we should have a venue pretty soon and the beginnings of a good time for all).

Today a few of us from the office went to go see The Daily Show being filmed - we originally had tickets for a taping in March but we were too far back in the line to get in. The upshot of this was that we got VIP tickets for another show, which was today. Funny stuff, plus John Malkovich was the guest tonight.

After the show we headed up to Lincoln Center to check in on the Boy in the Bubble himself - David Blaine has been in a giant snowglobe for a few days now, pretty much doing nothing but hanging out and getting his picture taken with people. There's going to be some kind of breath-holding-world-record attempt at the end, plus some Houdini-esque escapology. Which is nice.

Austin: Still weird

So two weekends ago was the Austin Reception Event down in Texas. First time in the state and it was definitely a worthwhile trip. Got in Wednesday night and was picked up by Rusty, Clarali and Athena; Thursday had the awesome Global Village (as featured on the front page of the college newspaper), a random free event in the business school with enough free food to feed an army and a tour of Austin (bats, capitol building, food). On Friday we lounged by the pool until it was time for the International Showcase (cross between Global Village and Talent Show), before some drinks and good times in the evening.

Saturday, after breakfast burritos at Juan in a Million, saw all thirty or so of us heading to a lake for assorted swimming, cliff jumping and pointy-rock-avoiding. Dana, Ali and I took the scenic route to an awesome BBQ place before getting ready for the evening, where a few of us hit 6th Street. The bars were fantastic - huge, live music, open roofs - plus I won some drumsticks at a Jack Daniels promotion. I don't drum, but who cares? Drumsticks are cool. Ended up staying up all night waiting for my flight (thanks for the 5am airport run, Rusty!) so I was a little bit knackered by the time I got back to my place Sunday afternoon, but with plenty of good memories to smile about.

Huge thanks to everyone at Austin for an awesome weekend - here's to Hermes, Dave the Electrician, many many bats, Wushu vs Capoeira, Aunt J, Ron, sharp 'n' pointy rocks, that Led Zepplin cover band, the punks on the bus that avoided a brawl with the nazi and to Seinfeld at 4 in the morning!

Now That's Fucked Up

Just watched Hostel - Paul Fawell should never never never never never ever, NEVER ever ever watch that film. Not a whole lot of his favorite things in there. Pretty good movie if you like softcore porn and/or really fucked up slasher films.

I'm officially a week behind in postings - tomorrow I'll update about the Austin Reception Event, after that will come LTM weekend. Then, assuming it doesn't take me another week to do those updates, I'll be back on track.
