Mega Hash Run?

Quoting Mazzy from a previous comment:

"You know what I was thinking would be cool.. to get all the Aussies across the world in one room for a Nazi Zoom or a Mega Hash Run (huge tradition in @ Australia and from Sydney LC)"

Now, I like my AIESEC/drinking games - I've made guides, I've taught and played many over the years, and am still waiting for my first game of beer pong with bated breath - but never in my life could I have dreamed there would be anything game- or icebreaker-related with such random names... (but hey, this is Mazzy/captain random herself).

Mazzy - I'm intrigued (raises eyebrow in Roger Moore fashion), do tell more.

AIESEC.net in "Being Crap" Shocker

The Green Day concert last night was fantastic - haven't seen them live since 2002, and it was nice to see them play a mix of old and new stuff. Headed over to an AIESEC party afterwards (arriving just as a lot of people were heading out - d'oh!), but it was nice to see everyone again after the holidays. Andy (former Manchester VPICX, current UK MC) was also in town, so it was nice to catch up with him as well.

Anyway, attention now turns to LDS next weekend... And just when I need to fill my head with AIESEC knowledge, aiesec.net craps out on me! Either way, I still have three days, so I think further speech looking-over is in order until I'm able to get to the UK community. Tomorrow I have to get what I need for my costumes - a hat and poncho-style thing for Western night, plus... something for London Underground night (where you have to dress up as the name of a London underground station - Angel Islington, Kings Cross...).

In case you don't look over (IU) Shiela's blog (and why not?), I've put together a dance guide for Let's Get it Started by the Black Eyed Peas - its more of a memory aid than a full tutorial, so if you were at WSC and want reminding, let me know!

Greeeeeen Day!

OK, speeches are done - they're pretty good, I think they'll get better over the next few days tho. Fortunately I have all day tomorrow to practise them, as I wait for hours in line to see..

Green Day!

Those tickets I brought in September are finally gonna pay off! And then, a house party with a brand new trainee! Does it get any better?

Currently listening to: Guess!!!

"Don't make the mistake of the laughter of hate"

A tip - don't try to write serious AIESEC-type speeches while The Office is on, it just confuses.

An interesting thought - what if David Brent was in AIESEC? "I want to give you, the SN, more of the AIESEC pie, vis a vis, your exchange experience through a new internationalisation paradigm" or something.

I'm hoping I can get my speeches sorted today so I can practise them in the line for Green Day tomorrow afternoon, so fingers crossed!

Oooh, ooh, ooh

In addition to those previously mentioned, Happy Oz day to:

- Tez, chair of my first ever AIESEC conference and of NatConf 2002 (one of my favourite conferences ever, where I won a cardboard Kylie Minogue who still lives in the Manchester office)

- Brett, trainer at MMS 2004 and original teacher of "Who's that man with the big red nose?" and "Is everybody happy?" (naughty version)

Currently listening to: Ramones Anthology

24 hours until my exams are over!
25 hours until I'm up to eyeballs in speech writing!
48 hours until I get to give myself hypothermia waiting in line for... Green Day!!
1 week until @UK LDS!!!

Happy Oz Day!

Big shout out to the Aussies on Australia Day, especially:

- Arthur, the awesome chair of MORE 2004 and PAI candidate - good luck!

- Jen, Salaam bigwig and offical Albatross Sim lifesaver.

- Denise, UK 50th OCP and chair of the first ever MONKEYS conference in Manchester (for which I am enternally grateful).

- Sabine, guest speaker at said MONKEYs conference who stepped in last minute for the best ever pizza-slice-related visions session in the history of AIESEC.

- Mazzy, MD guru and ball of energy from which no-one may escape.

I'm celebrating by writing part of my dissertation - it may seem odd to you, but my culture has it's own norms and values, thank you very much.

PS - I've decided to name Mazzy's own unique brand of randomness and energy "Mazzamatazz" - like razzamatazz, but, y'know, Australian.

PPS - someone stole my IU nalgene bottle! Someone in Manchester stole my Indiana University nalgene bottle! Gutted!

An Old Favourite

Currently watching The Matrix while working on my dissertation - I absolutely loved the first one, the second and third were kind of a let down, especially the last one (buzzkill!). I remember thinking those phones with the slidy-out bit at the bottom were so awesome when the film first came out, not they just look huge. But either way, awesome movie.

Umm... back to work...

Procrastinators, Unite!

After a request from one of the earlier postings:

http://www.tvtome.com/DharmaandGreg/season1.html - I looked it up because I remembered seeing a cliffhanger episode with a car accident and never saw how it turned out (not because I was dodging work at all...), and ended up reading all of them...

If you're still looking for something to do, hit up http://mixmaster.nomadlife.org/ and read the post titled "No regrets, that and everybody wang chung tonight".

Gotta love it

Well, it looks like my love for Family Guy has been rekindled...

"...And the other children, they were very nasty to me about that, they said bad, hurtful things to me. They called me 'Tastycakes', and they would beat me and stick pinecones in my ass - those were very bad times."

"Oh man, I hope that thing doesn't happen where I get nervous and I can't control the volume of my voice..."
"Hello Peter, how are you?"
"FINE! Please come in."

"...Leaving thousands injured. For CNN, I'm Bernard Shaw...KEEPING IT REAL AND KICKING ASS AT SPRING BREAK! WOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Arf arf!

Why?

I just read the synopses for all 119 episodes of Dharma & Greg.

Taking procrastination to a whole new level!

Just not the same...

Sigh... Today is a day for watching football championships with friends, eating snacks for 6 hours straight and not doing anything in particular... But alas I'm in Manchester, where its cold and sunny (before the rain returns tomorrow) and my dissertation is pulling at my trouser-leg like some kind of attention-starved 4 year old. Like last weekend I'll be "watching" the play-by-play updates online for the Eagles-Falcons game, but probably not for the Pats-Steelers (starts pretty late and ends later still).

After the Colts crashed out in typically subdued fashion last week (never mind Peyton, there's always next year), I guess I'm rooting for the Eagles as my Grandma lives in Philly and my Aunt used to work in the Natural History museum (I think... The one from Rocky. How sad is it that I only know if from a Sly Stallone pic?), so go Donovan, it's y'birthday etc. Ultimately I'd rather just watch the games, but not gonna happen... Having said that, me and a few other AIESECers are trying to put together some kind of Superbowl party (I'm supplying Madden and beer pong!) - the only trouble with it so far being that 1) no-one has satellite TV (which we need to see the game), and 2) Superbowl Sunday this year is the 6th of February, which happens to be the last day of a conference - the day the MC VPs are elected...

But hey, it might work out ok. We'll either be all hardcore and stay up and watch the game (whatever happens I think I'll want a drink after the conference), or we'll get someone to record it and watch it a few nights later. Not that I'm a football buff or anything, but I'm not sure Brady'll be losing a playoff/championship game anytime soon...

Lazy days... (The calm before the storm)

Pretty easy day with not a lot to do, all in all - of course this is before tomorrow (getting work done on dissertation) and monday (revision for friday's exam), not to mention MC election prep and the few bits of AIESEC work I have to take care of. But still, best make the most of it while I still can, as my last ever undergrad semester is right around the corner...

Despite this monumental occasion and the amount of work it'll entail, I have to admit I'm looking forward to the coming semester. I feel my head's a lot more clearer coming into this semester than before, and while there'll certainly be challenges I feel ready to tackle them as opposed to just putting out fires, so to speak. Plus, after 3 1/2 years I'm ready to give the whole essays/exams/shoddy lecturers thing a rest, even if for a little while. I guess its partly due to the classes I took at IU, but last semester was a real drag in terms of classes. Fingers crossed for this year!

Anyway, in honour of four more years of crap bursting from every window, door and vent of the White House, JibJab has made another cartoon and like the others its pretty damn funny. Check it out at http://movies.yahoo.com/movies/feature/jibjabinaugural.html if you've got a good internet connection or you don't mind the wait (and if you've no idea what I'm talking about, have a look at www.jibjab.com for more political cartoon tomfoolery).

Dude!

Wow, I set this up a few hours ago and I'm already getting attention! Big up to DJ Kev, Connie and the lovely Lilac for making the page seem more interesting from day 1!

I had my first exam of the year this morning - 2 hours of HRM that actually went pretty well. My only other exam is next friday so I've got a bit of time to start on my dissertation and begin my prep for the AIESEC UK elections (2 weeks! Shit!) - not sure exactly what to expect, so a little bit of everything is in order, I reckon. A bit part is the "Crystal Maze", which is supposed to be like a super AIESEC aptitude test or something. The candidate pack said that so many people knew what it involved that they changed it for this year, and I was like "Umm... yeah, I know... what goes on... in that thing..." (ie not a fucking clue), which is a sign of a strong start, I reckon.

Good point actually - was Crystal Maze ever on in America? If it wasn't then you really missed out - team of ordinary people in jumpsuits running around themed "zones", with one person at a time going into a puzzle room to try and get a crystal, while all the time a random blad guy shouted at them and played the harmonica. The show would end with them all in a big crystal jumping around, trying to grab gold tickets (BUT NOT SILVER) to try and win adventure holidays. I'm not making this up. Aah the childhood memories of the Future Zone... The Aztec Zone... Jumpsuits...

In an unrelated matter I went to see Team America tonight (not exactly highbrow entertainment but there were some moments that were absolutely hysterical) and ate my own weight in candy - not that that has anything to do with me going on about the Crystal Maze...

I'm Back!

So I've finally made the transition to Nomad Life from the old AIESEC weblogs... may this one be more adequately updated and free from server issues!

More to come soon (totally promise this time)...
